Those alcoholics who are still drinking understand like no one else the suffering involved in the constant usage of alcohol.
People on the outside of your life will continuously ask you to stop, but they don’t understand the magnitude of what you are up against.
There is so much suffering involved in daily drinking. You know on some level that you are not the person you used to be and no one knows better than you that if you drink long enough, your excessive drinking is going to drag you down on so many levels.
You lose your self respect. Humiliating situations can come up so often the only choice you have is to take the hit and try to forget about it, until the next time. There will be more as long as the non-stop drinking continues.
Your train of though the day after the night before of heavy drinking can be not only just plain disturbing, there can be some self-hatred involved, you may be mad at yourself for not addressing the important things you needed to do before you picked up that first drink, you can suffer from anxiety, and if you get worked up enough, your thoughts can be frightening.
And you feel so alone. Who can you talk to about all this that will understand? The only other person that can understand the pain and emotional turmoil involved with your alcohol addiction is someone who has been there him or herself.
When you first start drinking it can be enjoyable. But once the alcoholism reaches a certain point, misery and many times loneliness become your most constant companions.
