Drinking alcohol can cause memory loss, both short term and long term. The obvious short-term memory loss would be a black out and there is also what is sometimes referred to as a gray-out.
A black-out is where you have no recollection whatsoever of an incident that happened while you were under the influence and is attributed to an accelerated (rapid) increase in the concentration of alcohol in your blood.
What is sometimes referred to as a gray-out is you won’t remember an incident that occurred while you were drinking unless your memory is prompted by someone mentioning the occasion, at which point the memory will come back to you.
